Trends and Topics in Print Media

Every Monday morning, a team of Access media mavens gathers to read the latest trends and topics covered in print media (yes, we still read print media!). The team shares these insights agency wide to ensure we’re all informed and equipped for the week ahead. Every week, we’ll share learnings from the consumer, business and tech spaces here on the Access Point.

This week, we learned that TikTok may soon cater to our online shopping needs and received some advice on satisfying the holiday sweet tooth!

  • TikTok Wades into E-Commerce

As we highlighted last week, TikTok is hot hot right now! The popular social media app is testing a new feature that could push it into the world of e-commerce. In an effort to make money, beyond advertising, from its growing audience, TikTok has recently rolled out a test feature to a select few users, which will allow users to add links to the clips they share on the platform. Although the capability is not limited to retailers, some of the test subjects have already begun adding links to Amazon.com in their videos (Charity L. Scott, The Wall Street Journal).

  • Advice for The Sweetest Time of Year

As we all know, the holiday season comes with all the sugary indulgences that are oh so hard to say no to. In this month’s issue of Health Magazine, experts weigh in on sugar consumption during this challenging time of year. The article notes, “The federal Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that you shouldn’t consume more than 10 percent of calories from added sugars.” Ultimately, practicing moderation and saving added sugars for a special treat will help you to feel good, stay healthy and most importantly still allow you to enjoy the holiday desserts—hello, SkinnyPop holiday flavors! (Brierly Horton, RD, Health Magazine).
