October 17, 2019A Day in the Life of an Access Intern
Hi! Mia here, a fresh Intern turned Account Coordinator here at Access! I joined Access a mere three months ago as a post-graduate intern becoming an “adult” in the “real world.” I was excited, but also nervous, but could not be more grateful for my choice to join Access after graduation! Throughout my internship, I have learned so much from so many amazing people here, and I know the other interns have as well.
We got the opportunity to take over the blog this week, and we wanted to share a little bit about ourselves and something from our time here at Access. More about us below:
Name: Mia Vierra, SF
Hometown: Burlingame, CA
Fun Fact: You would never guess with my love of Disneyland now, since growing up I was absolutely terrified of the characters in costumes (aka Mickey Mouse). On my first trip there, my parents had to bribe me with ice cream at 8am just to walk into the park!
Favorite Part of Access: The office culture here at Access is wonderful! From pups to happy hours, our office environment is spirited but incredibly efficient. My favorite culture event that we’ve had so far was our ‘Bring your Dog to Work Day’ party! There were so many cute dogs running around the office, and our puppy themed celebration for them was spot on! The dogs of Access are just one small reason that working in the SF office is so amazing- that, and the brilliant people I learn from every day.
Name: Katie Sheehan, NY
Hometown: Cortlandt Manor, NY
Fun Fact: Every day on my walk from Grand Central to the office, I walk by the Today Show to see what’s going on outside on the plaza. If I see they are filming a segment outside, I’ll stop and watch for a few minutes!
What I’ve Learned So Far: I’ve been at Access for just about a month, but I’ve already learned so much about working in PR. One of the most memorable things I’ve learned was how an influencer partnership works. The process that goes into finding, partnering, and creating content with an influencer has been super eye-opening. I’ve started looking at everything I see on Instagram differently, knowing all the work and time that goes into each post or story. It has been exciting to see the process unfold from start to finish.
Name: Daryl Fallon, SF
Hometown: Alamo, CA
Fun Fact: I am a connoisseur of charcuterie plates, I love to curate all kinds of cheeses, cured meats, pickled veggies, dried fruits and nuts to create the perfect platter for any event.
Confessions of a PR Intern: If you told me 4 years ago that I would be interning at a Public Relations agency in San Francisco, I would have said “dream on”. But, alas, here I am, a PR intern at Access, working for brands I have only dreamed of. I have had many projects so far, but the most memorable are the ones that I have taken ownership of. One of my favorite projects that I have owned is sending creative mailers to foodie influencers. It was very rewarding to see my client reach over 100K Instagram users because of all the work I did with the team. In my short time here, I have learned so much, from media relations, to pitching, to how to create effective messaging, but the most invaluable (thing) I have learned is to be confident in my work and myself. Confidence is key when learning to accept feedback and improve your writing skills. I am grateful for my time here at Access and look forward to taking on more projects.
